Carry-on baggage is a common method of travel by air. It usually involves the temporary storage of baggage within a locked compartment in a plane’s cabin accessible after the aircraft has reached cruising altitude. The typical way to do this is for an airline customer to pre-arrange their baggage with the airline, which will collect and store it in a designated area until it can be transferred to its final destination.
Benefits of Carry-on baggage
1. Allows the passenger time to sleep or relax during the flight.
This method of transportation is favored by many passengers because it allows them to access their personal belongings and keep track of them throughout the flight. This was also very much preferred over the previous method, which had all personal belongings placed in an overhead bin with passengers’ full access and control.
2. Not having to pay extra fees for checked luggage
Currently, there are many airlines that do not charge extra fees for checking baggage if carry-on baggage is the only option taken. However, some airlines charge heavy charges for checked bags, whereas other airlines will allow a certain number of checked bags for free under a certain weight or size limit. Moreover, some airlines charge a fee for having to pull a bag off the conveyor belt or weigh it. Some carriers also charge extra fees for having an oversized, overweight, or fragile bag, which can be as much as $50 on some airlines.
3. Not having to wait at baggage claim
When a passenger chooses carry-on baggage, they usually do not have to wait in line at the airport, or even at their final destination if they are already there when their luggage arrives. They will not have to worry about finding someone quickly enough to help them find their luggage that has been placed out on the curb somewhere in the terminal building due to being too large for the overhead bin.
